A junior academic at the time, the six years I lived in Boston were easily the loneliest of my life. In attempting to capture that personal experience, many photos are from walking variations of the way between my apartment downtown and the café in the South End that I liked to work out of. The resulting body of work, photographed from mid 2016 to mid 2018, is more akin to Robert Frank’s “The Americans” (1959) in feel than Costa Manos’s review of Boston public life in “The Bostonians” (1975) commissioned for the American bi-centennial. The images in this gallery are an excerpt from a larger body of work.
